The prototype that was presented in 1998 was called Project Vantage and incorporated part of the design elements and mechanics in the production model. Maserati_MC12MC12 uses the chassis of the Ferrari Enzo, but is higher in all its dimensions. Its gasoline engine is atmospheric unV12 of 6.0 liters of displacement, four valves per cylinder and 632 HP maximum power. The maximum speed of the MC12 is 330 km/h (205 mph), against the 350 km/h (217,5 mph) of the Ferrari Enzo.

The street version was produced in order to homologate the racing version, given that one of the requirements for participation in the Championship FIA GT is the production of at least 25 Street vehicles. Thus, three models of the MC12 GT1 participated in the FIA GT Championship with good results, including a first place in the race in Zhuhai, China in 2004. In 2005, the MC12 raced in the American Le Mans Series, but suffered penalties for exceeding the maximum permitted size.

It is a two-door with a semi-descapotable roof (targa) Coupe, although separable ceiling cannot be saved in the medio-trasera distribution vehiculo.8 (engine between axles, but behind the cabin) keeps the Centre of gravity in the center of the vehicle, which increases stability and improves step by curve. The standing weight distribution is 41% front: 59% rear; in March, however, the force of attraction coming from the rear spoiler affects the distribution, making 200 kph (125 mph) the effective weight distribution 34% front: 66% atras.8aunque the car was designed as a type-approved vehicle and was a modification of a racing car, the interior is thought to be luxurious: presents a mixture of coverage of carbon fiberblue skin and "Brightex" silver, a synthetic material that was found "very expensive for the fashion industry".

Andrea Bertolini, the driver in 2008 of the Vitaphone Racing team, and chief pilot of testing during the development of the MC12, commented:

The Top Gear television series acquired an MC12, and tester anonymous driver The Stig made a lap time of 1:18, 9 in the track of Top Gear, 0.1 seconds faster than his return with Ferrari Enzo.19 presenter Jeremy Clarkson also piloted it, compared to the Maserati Biturbo, a vehicle that was not of his agrado.17 Clarkson he criticized the vehicleindicating, among other things, that, as the Enzo, a rear window is missing. Also, commented that it is "difficult" because of their actions, and "one of the vehicles more nervous" that had led, meaning that a small pilot action caused an overreaction of the vehicle.

With respect to the design as a vehicle racing and made modification to road model, said: "is it a racer? Is it a GT? Is it an Enzo desafinado in an inflated suit? Actually, you may not know it.
